CASE STUDY NO. 07

Young Joey's adder was rather short.
'It should be much longer,' he often thought.
His father mocked, 'What's that little worm?'
A heartless taunt that made Joey squirm.
So he hid her away in a pencil box
Which he carefully lined with old woollen socks.

Doctor Robert's the right man to know
How to encourage a grass snake to grow.
So Joey brought her to A & E.
(That's CASUALTY to you and me.)
Nurse Jack said, 'You did right to fetch her.
Quick, somebody! Call for a stretcher.'

'I'm here,' called the doc, dressed in surgical purple,
'Break out the rack and hand me a scalpel.'
Her thin snaky screams were heard in Ward 2
By a crying hyena and a flying emu.
But before young Joey could take her away,
The hospital manager said, 'Now you must pay! '

But it all goes to show what mad doctors can do,
'Cos now Joey's adder is seven feet two!
